Think you can only use your microwave for reheating last night’s leftovers? Think again.
Here are seven surprising things you can heat in the microwave.
1. Corn on the cob
Place ears of corn, un-shucked, on a microwave-safe plate or tray
Heat on high for 3 to 5 minutes.
Allow to cool on a cooling rack or cutting board. Shuck the corn just before serving.
2. Bacon
Place slices of bacon on a plate covered with paper towels, and cover with another paper towel. Cook on high for two minutes before turning the bacon over and microwaving for another two minutes.
3. Eggs
For scrambled eggs, mix eggs and milk in an oil-greased mug.
Cook on high for 45 seconds before stirring and microwaving again for another 30 seconds until the eggs are almost set.
4. Steam your vegetables
Get tender veggies in five minutes by zapping them in the microwave. Place vegetables in a glass dish with a tablespoon of water. Cover and cook for five minutes.
5. Toasted nuts
Spread out nuts on a microwave-proof plate and heat on high. Stir every minute until they are nicely browned.
6. Dried fruit
Slice fresh fruit into strips around 0.5cm thick. Lay the pieces on greased baking paper. Microwave on medium for 10 minutes, before turning and microwaving for for an additional 15 minutes.
7. Dried herbs
Place herbs on a plate covered with paper towel, and heat on high for around one minute. Crumble the herbs into pieces and store in airtight glass jars or ziplock plastic bags.
