If stubborn soap scum on your shower screen is the bane of your existence, then if might be time to try The Pink Stuff. It’s only been available in Australia since 2021 and already has a huge following because of its impressive results.
In fact, even professional cleaners have raved about this product.
What is The Pink Stuff?
The Pink Stuff is a range of cleaning products made by UK-based company Star Brands and distributed in Australia by Evo Lifestyle Products. This includes The Pink Stuff Miracle Paste, The Miracle Bathroom Foam Cleaner, The Miracle Cream Cleaner and The Miracle Laundry Oxi Powder Stain Remover. Most of the range is labelled as vegan-friendly.
The Pink Stuff Miracle Cleaning Paste is typically considered as the “original” Pink Stuff and is made from 99% natural ingredients. It can be used to clean a wide range of items, from showers to shoes and stainless steel kitchenware. And it actually dates back to a 1930s product called Chemico Household Cleanser, which was nicknamed “the pink stuff” by consumers.
According to the Star Brands website, it began manufacturing its range of The Pink Stuff in the UK in 2001 but only launched globally in 2021.
How a cleaner in Australia used The Pink Stuff to remove soap scum
When The Pink Stuff was still relatively new in Australia, one professional cleaner discovered its benefits while working. She was quick to share her thoughts online in the popular Facebook group Cleaning & Organising Inspiration Australia,
“Doing a bond clean for work today and I tried everything I could think of [on] this soap scum, nail polish and paint wouldn’t budge,” she said.
“I gave it one last go and used The Pink Stuff (in the tub), my Scrub Daddy, boiling water and a squeegee to dry it off.
“Pretty proud of my efforts.”
The Pink Stuff in the tub she’s talking about is The Pink Stuff Miracle Cleaning Paste.
Other reactions to The Pink Stuff in Australia
After sharing her story on Facebook, commenters were quick to agree to say they’ve tried and tested The Pink Stuff with excellent results.
“Yes, I’m a bond cleaner and I love The Pink Stuff for shower screens too!” said one.
Added another: “Love this product.”
“Exactly how I handle tough stuff! Great job!” Another added.
More recent reviews on Amazon also show The Pink Stuff is a hit in Australia, as well as around the world.
“This is great for cleaning in the kitchen, bathroom, spot cleaning on hard surfaces, getting out tough grime on pots and pans, or polishing up the kitchen sink,” one Australian wrote in a 5-star review in July 2024.
“A little goes a long way, and you don’t need to scrub hard (it’s actually best to be careful about scrubbing too hard as it is abrasive and may scratch some surfaces…). I love this product and will buy again and again.”
When we checked, The Pink Stuff Miracle Cleaning Paste had an average rating of 4.6 on Amazon. And all the other products had average ratings of at least 4.
But not everyone has been so impressed. One 4-star reviewer in Australia shared: “It smells nice, it works fine. Honestly no different than any other competitor… so 1 star less given that it costs more but does the same job.”
So, just like any product, people will have different opinions and it’s probably worth trying for yourself to decide if it’s right for you.
What is The Pink Stuff made of?
The original Pink Stuff contains baking soda, quartz, sodium silicate and soap as part of its 99% natural ingredients list. Despite claims that it’s gentle on surfaces, it’s still an abrasive so make sure you do a spot-test before using it.
What is The Pink Stuff good for?
The original Pink Stuff is an abrasive cleaner that is “gentle on surfaces but tough on stains”. It’s suited to removing grime, stains and rust from hard surfaces, including cooktops, saucepans, sinks and ceramic tiles.
What shouldn’t you use The Pink Stuff on?
With all abrasive cleaners, there’s a risk they can damage certain surfaces. Be careful when using The original Pink Stuff on stainless steel and shiny surfaces that can easily be scratched. Instead, you could consider The Pink Stuff products more suited to what you want to clean, whether that’s windows or clothes.
