North End Bakehouse in Shepparton took out the top gong at the Baking Association of Australia’s Victoria Baking Show.
With a record number of entries from over 130 bakeries in Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales, Matt Aylett of North End Bakehouse in Shepparton won two major awards: Australia’s Best Hot Cross Bun and Australia’s Best Vanilla Slice.

Taking to Facebook to share the news, North End Bakehouse wrote:
“Last night at the Baking Association of Australia Baking Show, we cleaned up the two major awards!
“This is the first time a bakery has taken both major awards in the same year, and for us, it makes it 3x times Hot X Bun winners & 2x Vanilla Slice winners in this show!
“These awards mean so much to us, and we are so pleased to be able to bring our award-winning products to our new, soon-to-open MOOROOPNA STORE in mid-April when we open!”
Last year, North End Bakehouse also took first place in the vanilla slice division at the Great Australian Vanilla Slice Triumph in Merbein, near Mildura.
