BHG spoke to Jesse William Ross, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Addicted To Audio to answer all our burning questions when it comes to home theatres.
Does a dedicated home theatre increase resale value?
A home theatre experience could add up to $50k to the value of a property if installed correctly, and depending on the value of the product itself. Especially in today's age of everyone having to experience home isolation, you can have a full experience without leaving your home.
What is the one thing in your home theatre that you shouldn’t cut costs on?
There are multiple factors involved, each of which is important, 1) Sound System, 2) Picture Quality, 3) Acoustic Design / Treatment - each is able to be tailored for different budgets but none should be overlooked, I do think particularly, the sound is overlooked - someone using a modest soundbar, for example, wouldn't be experiencing what the movies themselves can offer, I find a well-recorded movie soundtrack equates for at least half of the overall experience.
What’s the biggest selling point of a home theatre when selling a property?
Experience, able to have somewhere you can stream or watch, with a true experience, rather than a living room for example, which usually just has a TV somewhere to watch, it is tailored so you can enjoy these times to the fullest.
Do appraisers give value for just the finished space or does the equipment play a role?
The equipment and overall design would play a part in the overall worth of the home theatre, yes, as there is quite a varied quality level you can achieve.
How much does it cost to put in a home theatre?
Anywhere from $10k-$1m, or even higher in cases, it will really come down to the specific build and expectations of the customers, for a true high-end sound you would be looking in the $80-$150k range, depending on the room size.
Tips to maximize the value of a home theatre?
It is about balancing the experience between audio and visual and finding something that suits the client's budget and requirements.
