The laundry is one of the most hardworking rooms in the house. If you have a family and young children, you’ll know how difficult it is to get on top of the washing, and just how much time you spend in the laundry. With that in mind, it’s important that your laundry has a practical layout, functional appliances and plenty of bench space for clothes, baskets and other laundry essentials. Unfortunately, for many homes, the laundry is a last-minute thought and the floor plan is usually less than desirable, and less than user-friendly.
So, if you’re ready to renovate your laundry to make it more spacious and functional, then we have all the details on how much a laundry renovation will cost, depending on how big your laundry is, and whether you want a simple or luxurious laundry renovation.
DIY Renovation costs
Data collected by Houzz in 2018 has found that laundries are the fifth most popular room to renovate, and that most people spend between $2000 renovating a small laundry, and $3000 renovating a larger laundry of 5 square metres or more, if you plan to do it yourself.
Professional Renovation Costs
However, if you plan to hire tradies to get the laundry renovation done for you, you’ll be looking at a bigger price tag. Finder reports that, if you include the cost of new fittings and the labour costs of a plumber, waterproofer, tiler, and someone to install your fittings, you can expect to pay around $16,000 for a basic laundry, around $17,500 for a standard laundry with some bells, and $19,000 on a luxury laundry renovation with all the bells and whistles.
How much will appliances cost?
It’s important to factor in the cost of new appliances and fittings into your laundry renovation, in addition to any structural and cosmetic changes you plan to make.
- A dryer can cost between $500 and $2000 depending on size and brand, however you can reduce some costs by buying a washer/dryer combo.
- An exhaust fan to reduce moisture from the use of a dryer will set you back between $30 and $80.
- Tapware can cost as much as you want it to, but for a basic tapware set up you can expect to pay somewhere between $50 and $100.
- If you’re happy with a standard sink, rather than a custom stone, ceramic or marble design, then you can pay between $100 to $500, depending on size and brand.
