Bricks aren’t a particularly eye-catching exterior, especially when they’re old and dark in colour.

Luckily for us, there are a variety of ways to bring colour, texture, and appeal to dreary brick walls, transforming them into a completely new facade.

Brick surfaces are easy to refresh thanks to do-it-yourself treatments. We rejuvenated a tired courtyard using a product that gives the effect of render and paint in one. It’s applied with a roller, and float-trowelled to finish – easy!

  • Dulux Texture Primer
  • Dulux Texture Full Cover Roll On
  • Dulux Full Cover Texture Roller
  • Paint roller with extension handle
  • Paintbrush
  • Plastic float
  • Wide masking tape

How to transform a plain brick wall

Step 1

Using roller, apply 1 coat of primer to prepare brick surface for top coat. For areas that aren’t accessible by roller, cut in with paintbrush, ensuring that all surfaces are covered, including grout lines.

Step 6

Level paint promptly, before skin starts to dry, ensuring joints and low spots are filled by pushing paint across surface using level.

To cover large areas, application is best done with a helper, so one person can level as the other continues to apply the product to the wall.
