The new sausage roll maker is the latest Kmart product to go viral on social media, selling out online and at stores around Australia.
And Kmart fans have taken to social media to share their hacks using the $29 appliance.
Perth grandmother Dawn Smith has used the sausage roll maker to make chocolate eclairs, causing a stir on Facebook.
She confessed that her “wonderful hubby” is a chef by trade and is “always up for a food challenge”.
Here is his recipe for chocolate eclairs:
Ingredients (makes 4 eclairs)
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup sifted plain flour
40g cubed room temperature butter
2 eggs room temperature
Pinch of salt
Method
1. In small saucepan, melt butter, water and salt together. Bring to simmer and add sifted flour. Mixed together well then return to heat cook until the mixture comes away from side of saucepan and comes together in a ball.
2. Place in mixing bowl and allow to cool. Then mix with paddle (or wooden spoon), adding one egg and continue to mix together until it comes together. It will look like it has split but that’s OK. Then add second egg and repeat until it all comes together (the mixture will be smooth and shiny).
3. Split the mixture into 4 and placed in the sausage roll machine, cooking for about 18-20min. Trim and allow to cool on cooling rack.
Then when cool, open one end to fill with cream and dunk in chocolate.
The recipe proved to be a hit on the Facebook group Kmart Pie Maker Recipes, Tips and Ideas Australia, garnering 1,800 likes and hundreds of glowing comments.
“Omg that looks amazing. Can’t wait to get a machine,” said one mum.
“Dawn you champion! This is the best thing I’ve ever seen!!” enthused another.
Said a third, “THAT’S IT! Im off to buy a sausage roll machine”.
