How to make melt and pour soap

Handmade soap looks and smells beautiful but, made the traditional way, it can be really complicated and time-consuming to make. This week, Juliet’s introducing you to a much simpler alternative: melt and pour soap. Not only is it a fun project to make with the kids, there are so many ways to personalise this DIY and truly make the soap your own.

WATCH: How to make melt and pour soap

Gather your supplies

  • 4-hole rectangular flexible silicone mould
  • White melt and pour soap base
  • Isocol rubbing alcohol
  • Sweet orange essential oil

You’ll also need

  • Bubble wrap
  • Scissors
  • Cutting mat
  • Sharp knife
  • Heatproof jug
  • Stirrer
  • Spoons
  • Honey
  • Turmeric

Here’s how

Step 1

Cut pieces of bubble wrap to fit inside mould holes.

Step 2

Working on a cutting mat, slice melt and pour soap base, then cut into 1cm cubes with a sharp knife.

Put soap cubes into a heatproof jug and microwave in 20-30 second increments, stirring after each, until cubes are fully melted. Add 3 tablespoons of honey and stir in.

Mix 1 teaspoon turmeric with 1 teaspoon rubbing alcohol in a small bowl, then add to melted soap and stir to combine.

Add 5 drops of sweet orange essential oil and stir to combine.

Pour into mould holes and allow soap to set for a few hours.

Unmould soap bars and peel off the bubble wrap.
