Invest in a quality bed
It’s estimated we spend a third of our lifetime in bed, so it makes sense to invest in a bed that’s both a feature of the room and worthy of the time you spend in it.
There’s a world of bed shapes, sizes and features to consider, including some with concealed storage. Textured frames and bedheads bring a beautiful design element and softness to a bedroom.
If you're already happy with your bed base, then consider updating your bedroom with a statement bedhead to make lying in even more cosy. There’s a range of bedhead slipcovers to choose from at Temple & Webster that can affordably update your look.
Warm feet, warm heart
Floorboards are hard wearing and cool in summer, but they can be cold underfoot in winter. Bedrooms are generally low-traffic areas so consider plush, high-pile rugs such as shag rugs or wool rugs for luxurious comfort.
A beautiful rug is warm to touch, helps trap heat and visually anchors a room. Choose a colour or pattern from your bed frame or curtains to cohesively bring all your room’s elements together.
Relax with soft lighting
In the bedroom, overhead lighting is practical for tasks like cleaning but it’s rarely relaxing. Interior stylists refer to lighting as the ‘jewellery’ of a room as it adds a sculptural element and when chosen well, can cast everything in a more flattering light.
Lamps are a practical and attractive way to create a cosy mood in the bedroom, as they let you control the amount and brightness of light, and where the light hits. Bedside lamps are popular as they throw a soft glow, don’t take up a lot of space and can be moved around to suit your lighting needs.
Layer with textiles
Layering tactile textiles to add warmth, colour and texture is the finishing touch for a dreamy bedroom you’ll never want to leave. Plump up your bed with a double layer of pillows, or layer standard-sized pillows for more depth and height.
Think soft, lofty bedding for adaptable warmth and add a faux fur or fluffy throw on top of a quilt for extra pillowy softness you’ll love sinking into.
All you need now is a good book and some cosy PJs. Just don’t forget to set your alarm (or turn it off).
