Air fryers have become a game-changing kitchen appliance, leading to viral air fryer recipes on social media, best-selling books from the likes of Jamie Oliver and Steph De Sousa and plenty of rave reviews from customers. The best air fryers in Australia make it easy to cook delicious meals with less oil, often in less time than with a traditional method. They can also be more energy efficient, potentially saving you money on household bills.
โAir fryer technology has changed the way we create crispy and crunchy recipes in our homes. Since being introduced to the market, air fryers have become a must-have appliance for the kitchen,โ category expert Tania Grillinzoni from The Good Guys told the Better Homes and Gardens team. In fact, there are upwards of 100,000 Google searches for โair fryerโ in Australia every month.
The ongoing popularity has led to a huge range of air fryers on the market, from compact models ideal for small kitchens (or even caravans) to vast and impressive appliances that can do a whole lot more than make crispy chips. And one of the new air fryers for 2025 โ the Tefal Easy Fry Silence Essential โ is even tackling the oft-criticised noise levels of these appliances. While some air fryers can be as loud as a dishwasher or even a vacuum cleaner (over 60 decibels, or dB), this one has noise levels closer to a dinner party murmur (48dB, according to official Tefal testing). Considering there are lengthy Reddit and Facebook threads (not to mention reviews) about the noise of air fryers, quieter models are likely to be popular.
But with so many different models on the market, here we have selected the best air fryers in Australia based on features including cooking modes and times, capacity, design, warranty details and customer reviews โ including some that are on sale. Weโve also got details about what to consider when youโre shopping for an air fryer, to help you choose one thatโs ideal for your kitchen.

Is an air fryer worth it?
Air fryers arenโt essential for every kitchen but they can be incredibly convenient and valuable if you regularly cook chips, chicken, other meat or typically crispy food. As well as potentially reducing the amount of oils and fats you cook with, they can save time and lower energy costs.
The different sizes available also mean you can choose a model to suit your kitchen space โ or even a motor home. Sleek designs also leave it up to you whether you want to keep your air fryer on your kitchen benchtop or store it after every use.
โAir fryers are convenient because they work as a benchtop appliance, so when you are finished with them, they can be easily stored away in the cupboard for next time. There is no need to have special cabinetry made to incorporate your air fryer into the kitchen,โ The Good Guys category expert Tania Grillinzoni told the Better Homes and Gardens team.
Most models also have a range of cooking modes, and the air fryer recipes out there cover everything from delicious dinners to delectable cakes and other desserts.
So ultimately an air fryer could be worth it if you think youโll use it, but if youโre happy cooking with the appliances you already own, you might not want or need one. And the good news for anyone on the fence is that you could get one for under $40, test it out and decide if itโs worth investing in a larger model for your home.
What is the best air fryer in Australia?
There isnโt just one air fryer thatโs best for everyone but thinking about what you want from an air fryer can help you get the right one for your home. That includes considering what you want to cook with it, the different sizes available and how much guidance or inspiration you want (i.e. would you use a free recipe app?).
Size and capacity
Air fryers are compact and work as mini turbo-charged convection ovens. The first step is to find the right size and capacity for your cooking needs.
โAir fryers consist of a basket to place the food in. The bigger the basket, the more you can cook at once. With smaller air fryers, you would easily be able to roast a cut of meat. Whereas a larger air fryer allows for more space to add vegetables into the basket to cook at the same time,โ explains Grillinzoni.
- 0.5L โ 2L is suited to a single person household
- 2L โ 4L is suited to couples or small families
- 4L โ 6L is ideal for families of 3-5 people
Keep in mind that the actual cooking space might be different to the listed capacity for an air fryer. This is because some manufacturerโs measure the total space inside the air fryer and whatever you put in it needs space around it to cook properly. For example, if you wanted to roast a whole chicken youโd typically need to look at air fryers with a capacity of more than 4L (think closer to 4.5L and upwards). It also depends on the shape of the air fryer and the size of the chicken.
How to clean an air fryer
If youโre not a fan of the cleaning up after making a feast, the good news is that air fryers are known for their ease of cleaning up.
โUnlike deep fryers or convectional ovens, after use you can simply allow to cool, remove the basket and wipe down with a sponge, or hand wash if you choose to, and youโre ready to start cooking again.โ
A lot of air fryers also have dishwasher-safe removable parts, which makes it even easier.
What canโt be cooked in air fryer?
Any wet batters, melty cheese or over-seasoned items wonโt fare well, as theyโll likely end up oozing through the air fryer baskets and cause a whole lot of mess. Frozen items? Big yes. Soups, stews and broths? Probably not.
Itโs worth noting the list of things that canโt be cooked in an air fryer is generally outweighed by the list of things that can โ brownies, bacon, toast! โ but there are certain items that arenโt recommended for cooking in an air fryer.
Where should air fryers not be placed?
Generally speaking, itโs not a good idea to place your air fryer on any wooden surfaces, in unventilated areas or in close proximity to water sources. This also includes putting it too close to anything thatโs potentially flammable, other appliances, on the stove area or sitting too close to a power outlet.
